Join us in Kenya for 11 nights, 12 days (with the option of extending your trip) of safari, service, culture, both mainland and island experiences, sunset sails, beach time, incredible swahili food, and yoga. We will be volunteering in both Mbita and in island villages off the coast of Kenya – giving our time and energy to complete critical projects for local agencies. On our days off you get to experience a safari at Lake Nakuru, explore a community on the shores of Lake Victoria, soak in the island of Lamu, sail on traditional dhows and relax on the beach or by your pool.

Service + Fundraising
The Village Experience will be coordinating four days of service for us with their agency partners. In Mbita, we will be working with Live Long Self Help Women’s Group and Mbita Primary School, while off the coast of Kenya, we will be working with Safari Doctors. Our exact projects will be dependent on current needs and what our group chooses to fundraise for. Whatever the exact projects end up being – expect to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty while also learning about the numerous projects and programs these agencies run to meet their communities’ critical needs.
We are asking that as part of your commitment to this trip, you are prepared to raise at least $500 in donations for this project. You can make the donation yourself, you can host fundraisers, you can ask your friends and family for support, or work with Mikki and Kelly to come up with other ideas.
Most day of the retreat will begin or end (depending on our schedule) with a yoga practice, led by Mikki. These practices will be all levels, yoga classes and will help us to integrate and process our experiences on this retreat. Here’s a little bit more about Mikki:
An Oregon yoga and SUP yoga teacher and creator of Yoga + Beer pairings, Mikki Trowbridge aspires to both inform and inspire through her teachings. She is known for her anatomically informed and soulfully inspired yoga classes that promise to be a little nerdy, but always fun, flowing and accompanied by phenomenal playlists. Her style creates space for yogis to be challenged and to grow their practice, but also to find ease, confidence, laughter and yogi friends. In addition to teaching yoga, Mikki also enjoys volunteering and inspiring others to find their passion for service, traveling, sipping on craft beers and getting outdoors for a hike, a paddle or to catch a sunset.
Our retreat has time built in for you to have unplanned, free time to explore Kenya. We have one full day of safari at Lake Nakuru, an evening at Lake Naivasha, visits to Sheldrick’s Wildlife Trust and the Giraffe Conservation Center in Nairobi, a couple full days to relax and explore Lamu, and specifically Shela Village. There will be plenty of opportunities to appreciate the local cuisine and shop from local artisans. And your time spent on traditional dhows for a sunset sail will be an unforgettable part of your experience.
